Water turtles can't swallow if their head is not submerged in water. I would put it in a tank or tub with water that is at least 4 inches deep and offer food like fish, worms or whatever you think it may eat. He has not eaten for too long because he was not kept in water. Try feeding him and watching him in a "sneaky" way, so he doesn't see you watching.

I put her in about 3 inches of water and she kinda freaked out, trying to get out and climb the top. She held herself out of the water part way with the rim. I noticed she keeps her mouth open a little all the time and makes a noise when she breathes. Since she's a turtle and not a tort can I soak her in the water and carrot baby food? If so how much would you recommend I mix it?

She is a mud turtle. They live in shallow streams, ponds, swamps and muddy river banks. Leave her in a large washtub that she cannot climb out of, with 3 or 4 inches of water. Tilt one end of the tub and put a rock or tile under it so that the one end is raised and the water is deeper at the other end. Put a few large edible leaves like romaine or pumpkin vine leaves in the water, and put her in the tub in a warm quiet place. Keep an eye on her to make sure she can't tip herself over.
