Lovely pictures, Natrah, and I'm so very glad your mum responded.
Zola has been having walks on the breakwater whenever possible, followed by a long rest with me afterwards. Yesterday, Richard was talking to a couple there, and the man was very nice and interested, but the woman asked his name, and when Richard said Zola, she said "Oh, you would have to call him something fancy !" in a very scornful tone -Richard was quite upset, and so was I when he told me ! I can't remember if I told you that Zola chose his own name when we first got him - he made it come into my head, and it was obviously right for him (or her, as we didn't know then)......
There's Emil Zola the writer, Gianfranco Zola, the former wonderful Italian footballer, Zola Budd the former female runner -and we fairly recently discovered that Zola is the Swahili word for quietness ! So his name covers pretty well everything. I am convinced that our little boy put it into my mind, and I would have said something very rude to the sneery woman if I had been there on the breakwater !
Love to you, Jacky and Angel Daisy, and to all our our forum friends from Angie and Zola xxxxxxxxxx
Zola clearly is a fancy name!

“The spiritual meaning of the name Zola is closely tied to the concepts of peace, tranquility, and harmony. In a spiritual sense, Zola represents a deep connection to inner peace and a harmonious existence.”

@zolasmum
This description sounds like you have found the perfect life with Zola.
Dear Sue - where did you find the quotation about Zola ? I read it to Richard and he agreed with me that our boy does indeed seem to have some very special qualities. Though there are certainly times when his main purpose in life seems to be to spread smelly poo everywhere - and gallons of wee as well- not quite as harmonious then !

Good morning Zola, Sapphire, Dilly, Razberri, Sally, Squirt, Edward, Sherman and especially Dickie and George,

Yippee! On Friday I got my first taste of kale of the year (see below) and today I had my drowning session! Natrah took me out of the tub and weighed me before hurrying me to the enclosure. On the way I created a tortoise waterfall on the hallway carpet 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. I was rushed straight back to the bathroom for a cleanup after up Natrah cleaned the carpet 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣.

Jacky

PS: If someone has been that cheeky with me Zola I would have created a waterfall all over them!

I googled the meaning of the name. I saw the Swahili meaning as well. You never know what the algorithms allow you to see though!
Yes poop & wee seem to be plentiful here too 😆

When we were out with Zola last year, we met an African woman who actually sang a children's song to us about being quiet, which had the word Zola repeated lots of times !

Zola met two people from Southampton today on the breakwater. They were very nice, but he didn't think to ask if they knew Jacky ! We are now having our evening stroke without the fire, but in the same place - I have found that he responds really well to a particular fleece, which I wrap round over my right shoulder, leaving it loose, so he can get underneath, and when his dad gives him to me, in the fairly dark room, I put him by my shoulder, and almost at once he sort of snuggles into place under the fleece, with my hand on him. Then he is happy to stay there, being slightly rocked by my breathing, and with me stroking him gently, for an hour or more.

Good evening everyone!

I think Zola is beautiful name for a beautiful tortoise and I can't blame you two for being annoyed with that woman Angie. I thought it was very cheeky. What would they say to my name I wonder?

I had a busy morning clearing up after a certain and then after having lunch I came back and continued clearing up defrosting Jacky's hibernation fridge! However I don't mind clearing up after Jacky's presents because they are an indication that she's a healthy tortoise! Anyway I treated myself to Chocolate Fudge Cake and a neighbour brought some dandelions for Jacky!

I hope Zola was able to enjoy his walk without meeting that rude woman again. It's been a beautiful day here and the other day I saw a Jay which I hadn't seen for a long time.

Goodnight everyone

Natrah, Jacky and Angel Daisy

Hello Natrah and all - it was a lovely sunny day, so we went out looking for lambs -hardly any, anywhere - finally we found a field where there were several small lambs in a group with their mums, sitting down with the light behind them - and the sunlight shining through their ears made then look bright pink ! It looked so sweet !
Love to you, Jacky, Angel Daisy and all our forum friends from Angie xxxxxxxx and Zola xxxxxxxxxx

Good morning everyone!

I'm glad you got to see the lambs Angie. Jacky has just woken up and I shall be giving her some breakfast. I must tell you about a WhatsApp message I've received from my cousin in Malaysia. They are coming to London on what I think is a holiday as they have mentioned an itinerary and they want to meet with myself and my brothers and the elder one's children on the 23rd April. I will be trying to arrange but of course my cousin does not really that we fell out over distributing the inheritance. My two brothers tell out just before dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and then the youngest one couldn't get me out of the house quick enough. I told my cousin a little bit of what was going on and I have been communicating with the eldest of my two brothers and especially my nephews. I will be sending an email two my brothers when I've got my head around it. The upside is that my eldest has wanted to meet me and my cousins presence will make it easier. I have never told my brothers about the missing stuff because I would get a lecture about it. It's just the memory of what happened after dad's death and infact during my time as a carer. If my brothers don't turn up I will have to do some explaining. Of course I miss my brothers but I have had a lot of peace over the last few years. My friends, pupils and Jacky and Daisy have kept me sane.

It’s always awkward when this happens but if your brothers don’t turn up then it’s them that will have some explaining to do Natrah not you. Just give your cousin their email & let them explain for themselves. You spent years covering up for them with your dad (& mum I believe) so you don’t need to worry about them. Sorry that came from the past!
Dickie continues to make a mess & is bashing the side of the enclosure to get out. I have to wait until the sun gets round to the back garden before she can go out as it’s still chilly overnight & first thing.
George got in the bed part of her enclosure & lay on the straw. He didn't stay long but I think it was his way of saying look I’m the boss round here & I don’t like being disturbed in the mornings with you banging about! I could hear her upstairs 😆
I have a question…why do tortoises wee on their food? Is it to put off other torts or just accidental do you think? Maybe she’s saying I don’t like that much! Happens quite a lot. Any thoughts?

Good afternoon everyone!

Just had another WhatsApp message from my cousin so I'll just spend the day with them. It seems that they want to discuss dad's land in Malaysia and what we want to do with it so I'll update my brothers but to be honest after all the inheritance issues I really am only interested in a quiet life. I would advise anyone going through probate to use a solicitor but of course I was outnumbered by my nearest and dearest. I am quite happy to just have our names on dad's land. I've lost all interest in the money side of it eventhough I could do with a few more pennies.

Sue I remember our friend on another forum saying that tortoises used to mess on their food to stop other tortoises getting. Daisy's method was to grab and gobble. Jacky's method was to park herself on the food.

Good morning everyone!

I sent an email to my brothers about my cousin coming to the UK and wanting to discuss what we want to do with dad's asset. Neither of them can meet up but they want to discuss dad's so this will have to be done via email. However I can look forward to a day in London with my cousin after all they have travelled from the otherside of the world.

Natrah

PS: I now have an image George and Dickie winding each other up
