You also might like to know that Dozmary pool, where we first saw a Little Egret, is traditionally inhabited by the Lady of the Lake, who gave the great sword Excalibur to King Arthur, when he visited her there ! Lots of magic and tradition around there.

Dear Angie,

If you get the chance please could you send a photo of Dozmary Pool.

Thankyou very much

Natrah

PS: Jacky isn't doing much today although she was cradled earlier.
PPS: I won't be able to post much tomorrow as I have the concert.

I don't think we have any photos of the pool- it was a long time ago, and Richard wasn't taking as many photos then - but it's possible - I'll ask him.
Have a lovely time at the concert

Enjoy the concert Natrah.
Today we had the decorator in to wallpaper the bedroom so it was an early start clearing out the room. It’s all finished today as he brought his friend with him to help out so we’ve been able to move everything back in tonight. Totally whacked now 🥱

Good morning tortoises Jacky,

I need to include Sapphire (@Cathie G) and Seymour and PeeWee (@MenagerieGrl). Zola, Dickie, Sherman and Edward I want to tell you about yesterday. I had been having a quiet day sleeping in the warm end of my enclosure until about 8 pm when Natrah came in from teaching in Rayleigh. She disturbed my peace by turning on the living room light and then turning my heating down.

I then made my way to bed and then Natrah came along and we said goodnight to everyone. However she then tried to put me to bed and I was very dissatisfied with this so I shoved and bashed for a few minutes. She decided to leave me alone but she came back to tuck me in and I needed to shove and bash again. Finally I decided to bury myself under the carpet strip facing the window! Daisy used to do the same when she was dissatisfied! I also can't believe last some silly person posted a thread about tortoises not having moods and this added to yesterday's irritation!

Jacky 🐢

PS: I forgot to say that at one stage Natrah called out "Jacky what are you doing" and at another stage the neighbour (who is noisy himself) was locked and Natrah said "I'm sorry I didn't hear you knock because the tortoise was bashing around in the enclosure" and I can't understand why they were laughing!

I understand how Jacky feels. Seymour wanders the patio, and occasionally climbs the partition and makes his way out to the garden, exploring. Right now PeeWee is living in the large chicken/duck Pen. and dang if that Seymour doesn't work his way under the fence and goes face to face with the Giant PeeWee, I have removed him several times in the past, and ultimately he sneaks back in. PeeWee tries to "do his thing" to Seymour and Seymour just sits there looking oblivious. Anyway, when I bring Seymour in for the night, his "resting spot is in the Bird room in the corner. Occasionally in the middle of the night the birds will start causing a commotion, that's my Que that Seymour has awaken and is wandering terrifying the birds with the monster under the towel. I have a clear plastic tub I pull out, and put in the kitchen. I put him in it with a towel over him, and go back to bed to keep him restricted so everyone can sleep...

The shenanigans with George (cat) overnight mean we are both sleep deprived. He thinks nothing of waking Pete (usually) at any time from 4.30am so he can escort him downstairs to his food dish which may or may not be empty then to go outside!
I would shut him downstairs at night but Pete wants him to come up even though he is so disturbing jumping on the window sill & scratching the corners of the bed. Once he’s back indoors he then sleeps all morning whilst we plod about bleary eyed! Dickie is a good girl in comparison 😊

It has been better weather today - some sun, and not really cold, so Zola has had a walk on the breakwater again. Also he met a couple of people who were particularly enthusiastic, and who said "This has made our holiday - and it's only the first day of it !"
Love to everyone from Zola and Angiexxxxxxxxxxx

Good evening everyone!

The concert went very well and after last night's shenanigans Jacky went straight bed.

George 😺 please leave let Sue and Pete get a good night's sleep. PeeWee 🐢 Seymour is not a Sulcata and also he is not a female 🤣. Seymour 🐢please keep out of PeeWee's way!

Goodnight everyone

It was sunny this morning, so we decided to go to Bodmin Moor for a change, to take a photo of Dozmary Pool, and to explore a bit. We couldn't find a way to get near the pool - a lot of work has been done in the area recently, and roads and paths have changed. However, we saw other historic places, such as Jamaica Inn, and drove around the moor in general. It is very different from Dartmoor, where we usually go -much more scrubby, and kind of sinister-feeling in places. Lots of autumn colour everywhere - and we suddenly came across a field of very brightly psychedelic blue sheep ! I wish we could have taken a photo, but there wasn't anywhere to stop in the narrow lane. The farmers often mark their sheep with special dyes to identify them, but this blue was amazing - obviously it had been done with a spray can - rather over-generously - and quite recently, as the colour was so bright !
It was still sunny when we got home, and Richard took Zola for his breakwater walk in the afternoon, and he had his fire and stroke afterwards.
Love to all our forum friends from Angie and Zola xxxxxxxxxxxx

Dear Jackie,
You are my hero! I'm so little the only one that knows I'm mad is Mommy dearest. I can only bash my plastron on the floor and march around a little bit. I can't make much noise with that but I can march around a bit. The only one laughing is mom because no one else knows I'm mad as heck 🥴 I usually do it when she brings me in for the night.
Sincerely Sapphire

I mentioned yesterday that on our travels we saw Jamaica Inn - it is a very old inn, which featured in a book by Daphne du Maurier, and also Alfred Hitchcock made a film of the book,so it is quite famous - mostly for smuggling ! There was a lot of smuggling going on in the past - mostly brandy and tobacco, I think -but also luxury goods like fancy fabrics, etc. Anyway, the inn is still there, and no doubt popular with tourists !
We didn't go anywhere interesting today - Zola didn't even get a walk, as it was quite cold and very windy -but he got a specially long stroking session. I read that a lot of people don't realise that tortoises can feel being stroked through their shells - Zola certainly does, and he manages to make sure I do it exactly the way he wants at any time !
Love to all from Angie and Zola xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Good evening everyone!

Jacky has gone to bed now but she wanted me to tell you and especially George and Dilly (cats) about the little tabby visitor that came into the flat when I brought the washing. I saw coming out when I went out but Jacky saw him walking through the hall!

Angie I've got a book called Haunted Inns and I think the Jamaica Inn is featured in there somewhere. Also Bodmin Moor is mentioned in my Haunted Britain book and there is a story about the beast of Bodmin. Did anyone watch the Jamaica Inn series on the BBC? The most famous haunted place in Essex is Borley Rectory.

Goodnight everyone

Natrah, Jacky and Angel Daisy

PS: Not long before Halloween although Jacky will be 90 on Sunday.

Dear Natrah - I had forgotten about the Beast of Bodmin Moor - I think I mentioned that there was a slightly sinister feel to the area, and actually, I wouldn't want to be out there on foot at night. Dartmoor is quite different - the most dangerous things you might find there are escaped prisoners, who would no doubt keep well away from you ! Actually, you wouldn't even find any of them now, as the prison has been closed because of radon problems ! But the moor itself is mostly quite open, with wide views - only dangerous when the army has shooting practice sessions occasionally !
Richard is taking the car to get new tyres today, and also to get a couple of minor problems fixed, so Zola is unlikely to get his walk -actually, it seems fairly cold, anyway.

Good morning everyone,

Angie that's like Gunners Park used by Shoebury Garrison. It is a haven for wildlife and it is on the otherside of Southend.

We here in Cali, actually got our first rain of the season, ah'hhh RAIN!
I got .72"/18mm of rain overnight. for a while it was really coming down good.
I filled 5 -30 gallon/113 liter drums of rainwater to use for topping off the fish pond and refilling the goose/duck pond later on in the week. I dumped the first drum as the water was so dirty since it washed all the dust off of the roof and awning. Hope Ray--Opo does not get flooded out with all the hurricanes hitting the east coast. Ta Ta for now....🙋🏻‍♀️

Good evening everyone!

Dull and damp here and although Jacky is being kept she knows she should be thinking about hibernation because she put herself to bed at 2.30 pm! I'm pleased you got your rain Marsha but are Seymour and PeeWee behaving themselves. Sue how about George? Angie I hope you're okay. Unfortunately my colleague put a new pupil in my break time on Saturday by mistake. She is very sorry about this and I put a note to leave the next vacant slot free.

Goodnight everyone

Natrah, Jacky and Angel Daisy
