Hello Natrah - we had an exhausting time yesterday, as we drove to the radicchio warehouse to get some more for Zola. The roads were very busy and the sun was very bright and directly in our eyes because it was so low - anyway, we got there and came back safely with 4 very big and fresh-looking radicchios, but I had an awful headache which is still there today, because of the sun. Zola enjoyed it all, though !
Today was very cold, with quite heavy frost, but we did manage a look at the sea - despite the huge amount of traffic - people coming for a New Year swim, a rave-up, or whatever ! We are not having any sort of celebration ourselves -if the weather is good, we might go for a drive somewhere pretty tomorrow.
I hope all will go well for you and Jacky in this coming year.
Lots of love from Angie and Zola xxxxxxxxxx

Happy New Year everyone 😊
We can hear a few early fireworks going off. George is a bit worried. I expect there will be loads at midnight.
Having a quiet New Year plans on hold whilst I try to shake off this virus. It is getting better now thank goodness.
We are out on Sunday for lunch to celebrate Petes 65th birthday (Monday)
Years ago that would have been retirement age but he’s got to wait another 2 years! Remember when retirees used to get a watch or some other gift from long standing employers? That’s all gone by the by.
Anyway let’s hope 2026 brings better health, an abundance of happiness & lots of peace & tranquility for those that need it 🙏🏻❤ X

Good evening everyone!

Yes I wondered about your headaches Angie and I hope you feel better soon. Sue how are you feeling now? I hope George will be okay at least you shouldn't have to worry about Dickie. @The_Four_Toed_Edward how are you? Will you be seeing any fireworks in Finland? It's been very cold here and I struggled to get the heating up to 21 degrees Celsius today. I want be going out this evening either but I did have a festive coffee with my friend this morning. I'm pleased you got the Radicchios for Zola, Angie but you're right about the sun because when I walked home I had trouble seeing a car as I crossed a road. Still I shouldn't complain but I do hope to have good weather tomorrow to go looking for the Eider/Mallard Duck. This evening it should be quieter here than last year because the neighbours have gone.

By the way I have been taking my blood pressure at home as required by my surgery and I just getting the hang of it. Yesterday it took a long time because I stopped the machine before it finished strangling my arm and then I couldn't work out how to strap it around my arm 🤣

Goodnight everyone

Natrah, Sleeping Beauty and Angel Daisy

PS: I hope Pete enjoys his birthday does George still wake him up at 4 am?

I am well, all healthy again. The weather here has been more normal, -17 c and about 15 cm of snow.

Many cities don't do public fireworks anymore, but I am always able to catch a view of some fireworks walking around outside the city center (where fireworks are banned).

Good evening everyone,

Edward -17 degrees Celsius is freezing to me. I'm pleased to hear your okay and I hope Sue and Angie are feeling better as well. Below are pictures of a pink sky on my way back from Two Tree Island. That duck that I was talking about the other is young mallard with more white. I also saw a few Curlews this time:

Goodnight everyone

Gorgeous colour sky. Ours had a pinkish tint tonight too perhaps a hint of the possible snow that’s forecast.
I like the rules in Finland re fireworks! We didn’t get too many at all last night & none tonight at all. They usually carry on past the celebration day.
George seems to have forgotten about it now but they make him very nervous & he scuttles across the room in a low position with his tail right down. Hate seeing him react like that.
I am still coughing a bit but feeling much better now I’ve rested over the last few days. We had gammon & chicken roast dinner tonight. Took a good couple of hours to prepare & cook but then it’s eaten in 20 mins! George had some as well & the birds will have some of the fat & left overs tomorrow.
Happy New Year everyone 😊

another friend received a colour one as a Xmas present done by someone her best friend knows. It is brilliant, hate to say it but I think better than the ones my friend has done. They are expensive so not your everyday gift! I’m not a user of instagram but I do so admire the talent that people have. It’s a true gift!

Dear Natrah I hope all is well with you. Richard has had a lovely New Year present - the female blackbird who hadn't been around for ages appeared and ate loads of our lovely fresh mealworms - he was very pleased, as we are especially fond of blackbirds - and also his robin friend appeared again, and also had lots of mealworms ! We have started getting the mealworms by post for a while now, and they keep really well in the fridge, and are nice big specimens - we have had a lot of difficulty in the past trying to get worms from pet shops - and there are very few pet shops around here anyway. It's difficult to explain to a robin why the worms you are offering are inferior quality - not a problem now !
Love to all our friends from Angie and Zola xxxxxxxxx

Do they sell worms as bait? Here they do year round, since ice fishing is pretty popular.

Good evening everyone!

It's been very cold here but not quite as cold as Edward's Servant would like if she is used to -17 degrees Celsius! I did some shopping in Leigh and I had lunch at Wilma's see below. On the way back at 3.30 pm the sun was setting but to the north the moon was rising. There was a pink tinge again but I was all home at that point and just warming up. I was pleased to see Pied Wagtails in Leigh Broadway although they were very far inland but I'm pleased to hear about the Robin, Angie, and also the Blackbird. Food for them will be very scarce in this weather so Richard will be like a magnet.

Sue both of my brothers are artists and they run workshops and demos. The youngest one has a book out called 'Acrylics' and the elder one has exhibited in New York.

Goodnight everyone

Hello Natrah -we have had our first snow today - a light dusting only, but enough to cause big problems if it freezes overnight. Still, Zola did get out to look at the sea - lovely colours and clouds, but very very cold. Our house is difficult to heat - it is over 100 years old, and people didn't think about insulation in those days. We have done what we can over the years we have been here, but that is limited. Luckily, it is raised well above the road level, so we don't have to worry about flooding ever !
I am not feeling all that well at the moment - headaches still bad - but rather different - and a sneezy sort of cold. Luckily, Richard is ok, which is a very good thing, as he is the one who goes into shops mostly, and interacts with people.
Lots of love to you, Angel Daisy and Sleeping Beauty

Good evening everyone!

Have you all had a lot of snow? Also Sue and Angie I hope you're feeling better today. Below is a picture of this mornings temps:

Angie you might see the Fieldfare again and also some Redwings. I remember them coming into the garden because of the weather. In past winters I remember how excited nana and I were to see a Ruff in her garden and one year we were excited to see a Heron flying over.

Goodnight

That’s cold! Have you had snow yet? We haven’t but the frost hasn’t thawed for the last 3 days so it looks like snow. The forecast for Friday may bring some for us.
Hope Angie will be ok. Sounds like a cold as well as the headaches.
I’ve recovered from my URI. It wasn’t a cold but did affect head throat chest ears & even nose bleeds! The coughing was the worst keeping me awake at night. Thankfully Pete didn’t catch it.
Took the inside decs down this evening. We were the only ones in the street with the outside ones still on 😁 they have now been switched off but we’ll have to wait until it warms up a bit before Pete will get the ladder out & get them down.
We’ve covered Dickies hibernation box up with a blanket as a precaution as the temperature in the garage is down to about 2/3 degrees. The box is well insulated & filled with straw & on some shelving so her temperature will be higher. It doesn’t usually get to freezing in the garage as it is sandwiched between our house & the neighbours.
Hope everyone stays safe in this cold weather 😶‍🌫️
