Hello Natrah - the weather isn't as dramatic here as where you are, but it is very cold outside, and I think there is going to be a heavy frost. We have had a lot of birds round the feeders today, including 2 chaffinches, and Richard managed to get a few mealworms to the blackbird, as well as to the robin - who appears every time he goes outside, ready to stand on his hand for worms ! I haven't felt very well today - shaky and wobbly, as well as having a pretty bad headache. I do silly clumsy things, and get annoyed with myself ! Zola is all right - a bit subdued, maybe - and had his usual stroke by the fire with me, which is nice for both of us.Good evening everyone!
I'm home in the warm after battling with the weather! I hope you're all okay and that Angie is okay. I imagine the weather was pretty bad in Devon.
Goodnight everyone
Natrah, Sleeping Beauty and Angel Daisy
Thank you so much Chef and Natrah - however, ten minutes before we were about to leave for the hour-long drive to the hospital, the phone rang - my appointment was cancelled !!! I have been given another date - next Tuesday, at 2.20 pm, but I was really upset, having geared myself mentally up for it. So it will be nearly 11 weeks since my last appointment, when it should only be 6 - it isn't surprising the pains are getting worse. Too bad !
Please keep your good wishes for me safe, so I can have them back next week.
Lots of love from Angie xxxxxxxxxx

I will take pictures for you all to see tomorrow as we have 5-8” coming of snow and ice .. then AGAIN on Tuesday, Wednesday AND Thursday!!!Dear Chef,
Yes my broadband is okay. Have you got any pictures of snowy scenes? What's the temperature like where you are? It is 1 degree Celsius here!
Natrah
Lately we are getting an inch of ICE BEFORE it snows 8” …A lot of the clips I watch on YouTube often show the aftermath of ice storms usually of cars just sliding down the road only stopping when they hit something. People slipping over etc. it’s amazes me how you all cope over there when a couple of inches of snow can bring us to a near standstill!

Dear Chef - I haven't thought of me having an inner ear problem, but I will mention it to the headache nurse (there are specially trained nurses doing the injections, which is why other nurses can't fill in if she is unavoidably absent) I think my wobbliness is mainly due to all the painkillers I keep having - and to the fact that I am getting old !Could you have an :
Equilibrium problem?ot an inner ear problem that is causing your headaches Angie????

Dear Natrah -I hope you haven't had such bad weather today - it has been extremely cold here, and it gets very depressing. However, I have been with Zola in his conservatory, with him sitting on my lap on his electric pillow, and he seems to like it ! It doesn't get hot - just warm - and turns itself off, I think, after being on for a while. It is quite squishy, and I think I shall be borrowing it from him too!Hello Natrah - the weather isn't as dramatic here as where you are, but it is very cold outside, and I think there is going to be a heavy frost. How is dear little Gary ? Zola and I say goodnight to him (and you) every night - he has a special list of friends he and I want to remember - mostly tortoise related, but not all - one is actually a human in prison ! (but still our friend).
Love from Angie xxxxxxxxxx

Dear Angie,
Yes please inquire about the inner ear or the equilibrium. They may have a different kind of medicine for you and that would clear these headaches up right away.
As for Gary…….…. I don’t know yet.
He is not eating and is keeping part of his foot/tail out of his shell but he will not come out at all…
Also… today… I almost can’t say this but since you guys are the only ones I want to talk about Gary to I will say it quick… advice is welcomed..
He smells like a vase of dead flowers when they go bad..
Do you know that smell? It’s not pretty.
But today I held him in my hand and he (eventually) pulled his foot completely back into his shell.???
Doesn’t that mean he is NOT??
I have put some of his favorite shell cream on him after I cleaned him up a bit and put him in his grandmas knitted caps and set him on his heat rock (only for awhile, I don’t want him to dehydrate)…
So…. That’s that; as I fight back tears typing.. wish him well and hope that he is hibernating…![]()
To me it looks like Gary is suffering from deep retraction syndromeHere are his latest photos
What does that involve? To me it looks like Gary is suffering from deep retraction syndrome![]()
It is more of a symptom than a diagnosis. I haven't read into it much, but it is easy to spot. It can be caused by a number of things and overall very little is known about it even though it is fairly common in captive management:What does that involve?
Angie
Even though it was cold here we didn't have the promised ice. So I can't complain or should I?Sorry I haven't been here much. I have this crazy little dog that wanrs constant attention. I've read he'll be like this for about 3 years. He's already becoming calm though and it's only been a year. I'm becoming less of a chew toy and more of a designated belly rubberGood morning everyone and @Cathie G!
Please see Daisy's Anniversary!
Natrah
PS: More miserable weather here.
I think so too…To me it looks like Gary is suffering from deep retraction syndrome![]()
