Zola has had a very interesting walk today, where he met a 99 year-old lady, and her companion. They both held him, and were so delighted. The old lady asked Richard how you can tell if a tortoise is male or female, so Richard explained it to her - I'm glad Zola didn't decide to demonstrate !

I hope your ears are better now, Natrah, after your visit to the doctor. For you, especially, perfect hearing must be so important. And I hope your job application goes well - I should think it would be good to have some really reliable lesson times, which can't be messed around by sudden problems arising from parents or whatever.
Lots of love to you and everyone from Angie and Zola xxxxxxxxxx

Good evening everyone!

I enjoyed a good concert with clear ears but I want you all to look at the program closely🐢!

Goodnight everyone

Dear Natrah - Richard wondered if the composer of the tortoise boogie was inspired by seeing a tortoise waggling its rear end when their shell was scratched on that place !

I went down with a fever yesterday, but I think that it is just a regular cold. Thankfully I always harvest enough weeds for Edward to eat for multiple days. I will take it easy, hoping to get to lectures on Tuesday, as I will have my first lecture of a new course on museology, something I am trying out.

Good evening everyone!

Just having dinner at the Wimpy before heading to the seafront for the eclipse. Edward I hope you're looking after your servant and I hope she feels better soon. Angie I'll have to look that composer up but I wonder if he was influenced by Saint-Saens Carnival Of The Animals.

My ears are better and I enjoyed the concert but when I got off the bus near my old school there had been a terrible accident. A car came out of Lime Avenue into the London Road without noticing a motorcyclist. The biker then crashed into the car and flipped with his being broken into two pieces which landed in different places. The car spun around by the force of the impact and ended up facing the way it came. Sadly the biker slipped away at the scene and the car driver, who was probably injured as well, was arrested. My thoughts are with the friends and relatives of the biker.

Bye for now

Natrah

Good evening everyone!

Like yesterday there was a beautiful sunset but it was too cloudy to see the eclipse. Did any of you see anything? The composer Wilfred Hiller wrote a lot of children's pieces and he could have been inspired by what Richard described Angie.

I'm to still going to the meeting at Thorpe Hall School on Tuesday but I'm hoping to fit the hours all into Thursdays. Also I want to ask if my private pupil who also goes there could have half hour lessons because if not I might as well still teach her at home.

Goodnight everyone

Good evening again everyone!

The neighbour brought the card down and put it in the porch today but I don't think much of our mail service there was no post mark. Anyway it's arrived and I want to Angie and Zola for going to all the trouble to get this beautiful card of one of the UK's rarest butterflies to me. It is cooler here now and I just brought the washing in with Norah the bat's company 🦇.

Goodnight everyone

Well, at least it proves that I really did send you a card which should have reached you on time -I hadn't forgotten !!! I think Zola's writing is rather better on the first one ! It is such a nice photo that I'm sure you won't mind having two of them

Dear Natrah and everyone -We have had some very bad weather recently - last night there was a very loud, dramatic and long thunderstorm, which is extremely unusual here - also a lot of rain, and it has been really cold. I am just glad that we haven't had a power cut - the last one messed up my computer (- which is why I got your address wrong, Natrah -I have written it down now, so that won't happen again) Richard has got the computer sorted out, eventually, but I am afraid of turning it off in case it goes wrong again. No walk for Zola today, but yesterday he went on the breakwater -Richard met a little girl who was lying on her front on the ground, crying loudly while her parents stood rather helplessly by - so he bent down and said "Are you pretending to be a tortoise?"holding Zola near her face. The little girl sat up, and looked at Zola in amazement, quite forgetting to cry ! and all was well !

Good evening everyone!

I've had quite a busy last couple of days and on Tuesday I had that meeting at Thorpe Hall School and they are advertising for violin pupils to start next term. Ideally they should have advertised last term to start this term because that's when pupils and parents generally think of learning new instruments. The advice about the application form is to try again and tally all the dates together although the Head Of Arts said that she feels sorry for peripatetic instrumental teachers like me who teach in different places!!! This means I will have to 'weave' all the dates together. After last week I decided to give myself a week of from that form eventhough I now have more time to fill it in!

Also the new neighbour seems to be a nice chap but I feel sorry for because he's had to phone the landlords and issue his first complaint against the noisy neighbours. He also told that he is a former probation officer and he told the landlords what the other neighbours seem to be doing!

Sue and Edward's Servant I now have a mental image of a little girl refusing to get up until she persuaded by Zola. It is a wonderful image and she is never going to forget Zola. Like the elderly ladies the day before she is never going to forget him!

Goodnight everyone

Natrah, Jacky and Angel Daisy

PS: Daisy would have been 83 on the 22nd September and Jacky will be 90 on the 19th October.

PPS: We've had sunshine and showers today and I saw Daisy's rainbow 🌈..

The weather has been pretty bad again - spells of very heavy rain and wind, and some more thunder - I think there has been flooding in some parts of Cornwall, such as St Ives - luckily it hasn't been quite that bad here. Zola has been very good about missing his walks, and has been getting a lot of attention and stroking as a reward.
Recently we sent off for some winter pansy plants, which we hope will cheer up the garden then (with the plants in hanging baskets so we can transfer them to shelter if needed. Our garden has looked really good this year in general, and I have more photos to send, but for now this is one Richard unearthed of Zola and me in the garden at Arlington Court ten or more years ago.( A.C.is an old but lovely stately home in Devon.)
Love from Angie and Zola (who is rather smaller in this picture, of course) xxxxxxxx

I visited my friend yesterday at home & saw her large display of tortoise ornaments. She has some very tiny ones carved out of onyx & stone about the size of the top of a finger. She says she can’t resist getting them when she finds them. She is a bit of a collector & likes trawling round vintage shops etc. Her sitting room is full of collections of different things but the tortoises took pride of place in front of the fire ( in case they get cold of course 😁)
Her garden is wildlife heaven & is what she wanted to show me. She is very talented in arts & crafts & loves gardening. I’ve often sent her pictures of something that’s appeared in my garden & she can usually identify plants even from a leaf.
My essentric friend says she needs a cleaner but with all her collections around it won’t be an easy job!

Good afternoon everyone!

Natrah bought me a tortoise ornament this morning to add to my collection. Here it is looking like it is sharing my foodIMG20250912124350.jpg: It is very well-behaved unlike Daisy who couldn't share anything. I have also discovered that I like to my chin rubbed so I suggest you try this with Dickie. Sherman, Zola and Edward do you like having your chins rubbed?

That plate of food looks very inviting! Did Jacky eat it all? It’s usually the top of Dickies head I stroke when she has her soak but I’ll try the chin next time.
Can you tell me what the long food is that looks like grass? Dickie hasn’t been out. Yesterday the weather was awful with torrential downpours. Today has been better. She looks out of her house but hasn’t come out. Pete has moved her to a warmer part of the garden now that gets the sun more.
She will have her checkup at the vets next Friday.

No Jacky, I don't much like my chin being rubbed, though often, when we meet people, they try to do this, because they think this is what all tortoises like. I like the top of my head stroked, and especially when my mum does it, and she carries the stroke round to the front of my head. She did that this afternoon, as we were having our rest together, so I stretched out my neck and pressed my head against her mouth, to thank her.

Dear Sue,

Jacky had about half of it with the supplements. It's grass, dandelions, kale and Romaine Lettuce. We've had the lot here with sun, rain, wind and mist!

Goodnight everyone
