We went towards Bude this morning, but there was a really bad traffic jam, so we tuurned off into a lane that would take us to Duckpool again - and there was a beautiful big peacock standing in the road ! Unfortunately Richard didn't have his camera -there was a large sign nearby saying ''Beware, Peacock on Road ", so it obviously lives there. I'm not sure I would like one as a neighbour, as they can be extremely noisy ! Yesterday we saw some Alpacas in a sheep field locally -they are said to be very good at protecting the flocks, because they can be very fierce ! There is quite a lot of sheep stealing around here - especially on the moors where there are few hedges and gates - just low drystone walls mostly.
Zola is rather cross, as he hasn't had his breakwater walk today - he probably won't get any more now until next year, and of course one can't explain why to him !
Love to all our forum friends from Angie and Zola xxxxxxxxxx

Good evening everyone!

After yesterday I caught up with some chores today but I need to catch up with house cleaning. Jacky hasn't done hers either but I have put her under the now cooler basking although she prefers to sleep. I shall take her out of the enclosure at the weekend and transfer her to the pet carrier. Angie you mention peacocks but I seem to remember you talking about a friendly one near where you live some time ago. Yesterday I heard the parakeets as I walked the wrong way around Hyde Park. I turned up at Lancaster Gate Station which was closed instead of Marble Arch. Eventually I ended up at South Kensington Station which was not accepting Circle and District Line trains🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣!

Goodnight everyone

Is that the reason I see sheep with numbers spray painted on them ?
I always thought it was cruel but now I understand.
People can be so cruel stealing others sheep.
Poor sheep. 🙁

Dear Natrah - You are probably thinking of Clarence, the pheasant I looked after when he hurt his leg - not quite as flashy as a peacock, but very handsome anyway. He used to boss me about a bit, but he also trusted me enough to fly into my arms (or try to) when a loud noise scared him !

To be fair, Chef, the markings sprayed on sheep are also to help identify the sheep from a distance if it has wandered off and got mixed up with another flock, for example, or has got lost somewhere, but yes, I'm afraid sheep stealing does go on.

Apparently I look suspicious, since I got stopped by the police while walking to campus today.

So basically, a police car approached me very slowly and I was wondering what was going on. A little after they had passed me, they made a U turn and started driving towards me. They stopped me and rolled down their window, and I was just thinking well, this is a first! They asked for my name and when I answered, they told me that I wasn't the one they were looking for! Well, now I wonder who they were looking for 🤔

Another police car clearly on the look out passed me later, but thankfully didn't stop me again...

That’s a bit unnerving! Particularly after your potential good deed the other day. Get yourself a T-shirt that says ‘it wasn’t me’ on the back!

Dear Natrah -I wrote to you this morning about my friend Clarence , the injured pheasant I used to look after, and who was very handsome, but strangely the photo I sent of him vanished, and I've only just noticed it -here it is again, with love from Angie xxxxxxxxclarence2La.jpg

Good evening everyone!

Angie that's very strange because I did notice the photo this morning before I went out but it looks like someone removed it by mistake. Yes of course it was Clarence the pheasant and not a peacock. He's a beautiful bird but have you ever seen him again?

I put Jacky under the basking lamp but she is only interested in sleeping now so I will move her to the pet carrier in the spare room at the weekend. Zola and Edward do you ever try to slow down at all. Sweet dreams Dickie and I know that Sherman is spending more of his time in the shed.

Goodnight everyone

Stranger still -my original photo has re-appeared since I posted this again- weird, isn't it !
Clarence hung around for a while , then vanished, and I never saw him again - I missed him a lot, but that's how it is with birds.
Our current robin is around most days , by the way, but he isn't as friendly as some we have had - I remember the expression on our postman's face when we showed him how to get an earlier, friendlier robin to stand on his own hand and eat mealworms !

Yesterday I mentioned sheep stealing -well, in the local newsletter today, there was a mention of 68 sheep- adult ewes, I think, being stolen ! That must have been a very professional job - having seen sheep being herded into a vehicle (which is what the thieves would have to have done) I think it would have been extremely difficult to do - probably needing more than one vehicle. I feel really upset for the farmer, who was probably very fond of the sheep, as well as losing a lot of money.
I will try to find out more, as it happened very near where we live.
Zola had a fairly quiet day today - it was cold and wet mostly, but he got his stroke by the fire, and seemed very happy - making little quiet noises which might have been snores !

Good evening everyone!

It's been pretty miserable here and it's much colder so of course Jacky has spent most of the day sleeping. Angie that's awful about the sheep and I think there must have been a whole team of people rounding up those sheep. I feel sorry for the farmer and I hope the sheep can be found. Please let us know what happens. Sue are you getting any alerts? Edward I expect it's getting much colder in Finland. How much sunlight are you getting? Chef the neighbour says he's moving on the 28th November.

Goodnight everyone

I am getting alerts at the moment I don’t know why they stop though.
Talking of sheep rustling, we had a spate of it in my county a few years ago. It was particularly awful because rather than take the sheep they were slaughtered in the field & taken. It was a “hot” crime which the police concentrated on & thankfully arrested a couple of the people responsible. Apparently the gangs responsible move around the country. It did stop that particular type of rustling but recently more sheep have been stolen roundabout. It’s rural crime & it’s on the increase.
The farmer affected by the stolen slaughtered sheep decided to sell up & now unfortunately a load of houses are being built on the land.
