Good evening everyone!

Angie you don't have to apologise I just want to make sure you're okay. I'm glad you're feeling better but I'm sorry that you haven't been well. I have a dental checkup on Tuesday but I want the dentist to look at my fillings because I had a gritty taste in mouth the other day. Too much culinary indulgence🤣.

Edward how is your servant feeling now as it sounds like she's feeling better? Have you got snow in Finland and what are the temperatures there? The picture below shows the weather that we had this afternoon when it suddenly started pouring down! I shouldn't think Zola went out today. Sue is it okay where you are?

I decided to stay in yesterday rather than go and watch the fireworks because I could hear that wind! I was disappointed that I didn't go on my New Year's Day walk but I enjoyed the walk on Sunday where I saw Teal, Avocets, Moorhens and other wildfowl on Two Tree Island.

Happy New Year

It’s been similar to your photo round here but not as windy as last night.
Just after midnight there was an “explosion”of fireworks & poor George didn’t know which way to run. He was in the house of course but they were lighting up the garden. A bit later came the bomb ones which I particularly dislike. Thank goodness after that it went quiet.
We went to Pete’s sister today for dinner which was lovely.
Pete’s suffering a bad back & can’t bend so he’s using an old walking stick to get up from sitting & to get around. That stick has done the rounds! It was my uncles, then my mums, then Petes dads. It got lent to someone temporarily, now back with us & in use again!
Hope everyone soon improves.

Good evening everyone!

I looked up a couple of the birds in my bird book and I realise that there was a massive flock Golden Plovers over from the arctic and also Garganey.

Yes, I am feeling better. No fever anymore. But my temperatures are still hovering a bit above normal, do you have a word for it in English? A body temp that is above normal but not a fever?

We had a white Christmas and have had varying levels of snow ever since, but there hasn't been a point where the snow would have melted of completely. Currently we have about 19 cm of snow.

Today we are expecting a high of -11 C and a low of -16. Some places in Finland will have a low of -35 C to -40 C tomorrow, but it will be much milder here. Looking like about -20 C now.

Wow we don’t see anything like the variety you see. Its the RSPB garden birdwatch soon which I always take part in. Hope it’s not too wet or windy as that affects the birds that visit. I tend to do it over the 3 days & submit the best results of the three. Impossible to count the starlings, I just have to guess!
Petes back has eased a bit but is still painful & he can’t bend very well. What a way to celebrate his birthday! Also expecting to get some snow later so apart from going out for lunch today I think we’ll spend his birthday at home tomorrow.

I reckon we could have different normal body temperatures. Mine is always below the norm unless I do have a temperature. It’s usually 36. something.
During covid time when we had to have our temperature taken before going into the dentist, it was always done twice because it’s a bit lower than normal.

We have a word here in Finnish for when you have high body temperature, 37 to 37,4, but not quite fever. It would translate to something like "I have a warm" (compare, "I have a fever").

When we first came to Devon, in one of our early explorations on Dartmoor we saw a rather elegant white bird standing by a pool - we had never seen one before, and there was no entry in my British bird book, so we checked further, and found out it was a Little Egret, and very rare. Since then they have become much more common - breeding by the river Exe, and there is even one who seems to live by the Bude Canal, and who Zola sometimes sees on his walks with his dad ! It looks quite at home and unafraid.
