Hi all, i have a Russian tortoise for about 5 years now and this is the first time something is wrong with her. Today I discovered that her left leg is swollen and has a small red mark. I took her to the vet but he didn’t really know what was wrong. It could have been a bite (she is currently only indoors and we usually let her roam around a certain area in the house), either by a mosquito or some small spider. I am applying a cream on the swollen area in case if it’s an infection so that the swelling can go away. But I am not 100% sure if this is a bite, or if it is a bite, how poisonous it is. Maybe someone had a similar situation or might know something?

Hi! I can't help you identify the injury, but I'm certain someone will be able to help.

On the other hand, I would advise you not to let your little friend roam around the house in the future. It's troublesome for a number of reasons. Now, was letting them roam the reason for the injury? Maybe yes, maybe no, but more often than not accidents are minimized when tortoises are in proper indoor / outdoor enclosures.

Wishing for a speedy recovery! ?

Sorry, I don't know what's wrong, but I'm guessing your "guess" is correct, and that red mark has something to do with it. T Smart is right on when they advised you to stop allowing the tortoise to roam around on the floor. This could very well be where the red mark happened.
